HOW DOES BOTOX WORK?
Botox Cosmetic is an injection that temporarily eliminates crows feet and frown lines.
FDA approved, Botox is a prescription injection that targets specific muscle groups. Botox contains botulinum toxin protein that relaxes muscle contractions. Botox relaxes the muscle and improves the appearance of facial lines.
Dr. Engelberg has hands on training in technique and provides natural and pleasing results. Botox can also be used to alleviate TMJ pain, bruxism and clenching.
XEOMIN®
Xeomin is a Botox alternative for the treatment of frown lines. FDA approved Xeomin temporarily freezes the muscles that cause frown lines.
Frown lines are formed as you age by the repeated use of glabellar muscles. Xeomin is designed to stop the movement of these muscles to help decrease the visibility of lines between the brow.
Treatment generally takes about 10-20 minutes and results are seen as early as 3-4 days after treatment. Most patients enjoy results for up to 3 months. After treatment, you may experience some swelling or redness at the injection site, but symptoms should decrease after 24-48 hours.
WHAT TO EXPECT
During your consultation, your dentist will discuss your cosmetic goals and determine the appropriate application for optimal results. Depending on your personal goals you will receive several injections in carefully planned spots to alleviate muscle tension that causes facial lines. Dr. Engelberg is a cosmetic dentist trained by the American Academy of Facial Esthetics to offer natural looking and beautiful results.
Botox is a quick and relatively painless procedure that can be performed during your routine dental visits in about 10-15 minutes. This makes it easy to maintain your fresh, new appearance with follow up treatments. Most patients do not require an anesthetic and easily tolerate the thin needles used to strategically inject the botulinum toxin protein.
After your treatment, you may notice minor redness or swelling at the injection site which will dissipate within 24-48 hours. Results will gradually appear in the following 7-14 days. Your results can last for up to 6 months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Dental Botox is safe. Dentists with training in Facial Aesthetics are certified to perform Botox treatments in the office. We are professionals at working with Botox and making the process very safe for everyone.
Does Botox work to treat bruxism?
Botox can be used to treat bruxism because it calms muscle tension and nerves. This can help stop patients from subconsciously grinding their teeth.
What are the do’s and don’ts of Botox?
The first thing to remember after getting Botox is to not touch the area. Avoid applying makeup for at least 24 hours as well. Patients should also avoid sleeping on their face because it may cause pain. Patients should also avoid consuming alcohol 24 hours before and after the procedure.
Will Botox for TMJ slim your face?
You may notice that your face looks slimmer after Botox. This is because injecting Botox in the masseter, the main muscle you use to chew, can also affect your face shape. If your face is a square shape due to TMD, Botox may make your face slimmer and more of a V shape. Many patients with TMD may overwork their facial muscles, which can make these muscles appear larger. Treating the masseter relaxes the muscles that help form your facial structure, slimming the face and alleviating TMJ pain.
Do dentists recommend Botox for TMJ?
We will recommend Botox if your TMJ disorder affects the comfort of your facial muscles. Additionally, we will recommend Botox if you wake up with morning headaches and migraines due to continual nightly teeth clenching and grinding. Botox benefits patients who experience headaches, migraines, jaw pain, and facial pain.
What facial exercises can I do after Botox?
While you cannot do any physical exercises directly after Botox, we will recommend facial exercises to help the active ingredients in Botox penetrate your facial muscles. You cannot touch or rub your face, but you can smile, frown, and lift your eyebrows to exercise your face.
